Final first year assignment where we were tasked with creating an immersive 3D environment using only original 3D models.

Self destruction at its finest

In this assignment, we were tasked with creating all 3D models ourselves and creating an interactive environment. I decided to create a museum where the player could pick up and place objects, and added a background narrative to create a game experience.

The end product allows the player to pick up and place objects, but also break the objects within the area resulting in one of three different endings.

Codes and errors galore

Like with all game development, the debugging was the most arduous experience. Thankfully, after my previous assignment, I knew that I needed to dedicate at least 70% of the time for debugging. Although there were many initial errors and weird physics, I had enough time to code, debug and give myself a rest to start again. It's all spaghetti but if it works, it works!

All together now

The game development process took a total of six weeks including concept stage. I utilised free scripts from the Unity Asset store for scene fading and Yarn Spinner for the dialogue. I come away from this assignment with extended knowledge on direction of logic in terms of code, atmosphere development, narrative writing, and a better understanding of Rigid Body physics.

Definitely skills to be re-used during the summer break for game jams and private projects!
