Whale Skelly
3D asset model created for final first year interactive environment assignment
Whale, whale, whale...
This sculpt was created using Blender, a reference image and textured in Substance Painter. I wanted to create a suspended whale skeleton for my latest assignment, Art Wrecker, to resemble one of the heritage rooms from the New Perth Museum. I certainly learned how to manage my tris, eliminate NGons and the pain of trying to reduce the complexity of my mesh yet still maintaining the idea of the shape.
Deception Through Materials
The roughness was created through use of the standard bone material available within Substance Painter. Ideally, the model would have had some randomness to the individual bones but I wanted to manage scope creep and focus on working on the game code.
However, texturing was a lot of fun. I baked the model, whacked on a texture and definitely played around with different settings, colours, emissions etc.
The Final Product
What resulted was an OK mesh and fit perfectly within my scene. Definitely happy with the whole result and the sense of awe it generates when players first start the game.
