Duckfoot
A vacation project in which we were asked to make a weapon of our choice. I've chosen a British 1780 Brass Flintlock Duck's Foot Pistol by Bunney of London.
Genesis
During the vacation between first and second year at ESMA, we were given a Lighting-Rendering project which concisted of making a weapon. We could chose any weapon we wanted ! Firearms and bladed weapons from prehistory to nowaday !
Even though I prefer swords, I wanted something chellenging and original. I remembered a video I saw years ago made by Skallagrim about weird firearms, and talked about a multi barrel gun. I chose to make one.
I've made some resarches to learn more about those guns and find a real reference with a lot of photos.
These guns are actually named Duckfoot (or Duck's Foot). They were made to prevent riots in prisons and ships. Unfortuantely, they were dangerous because the weapon recoil was so powerful it could hurt the user.
I got very intrigued by this over the top model, but I couldn't find any informations about it. There was only one image of it in the entire Internet. According to this website, this image is a drawing from a book by Ian Vernon Hogg, a writer specialized in firearms. Maybe this model was lost or never existed.
I finally found this model on an antiques sales website. There was a lot of photos so it was perfect.

Even if I was not home I started working by drawing and thinking the mesh of the weapon on my phone.
Modeling (Maya)
Texturing (Substance Painter)
I recreated the boat drawing in Gimp with the fill tool which was very efficient.
