Another project int the animal study line, this time it the rhino.
I wanted to do a rhino for a long time because of the unique shapes and how they affect the skin patterns and textures. This was less an anatomy practice and more a texturing exercise, getting the right scaly patterns on the thick skin and transitioning into a more leathery and thinner skin without looking weird.
And then we come to painting. While at first seeming just very gray or brown and uninteresting, when you start to observe the details you can spot a play of colors that's hidden underneath. There are splashes of yellow and orange from the dirt it spends the day walking in. We can also see some blue and green tints combining with the mostly gray and unsaturated base layer. All these things add to the interest and really make it pop.
