TreeIt - 2.0 Study

I researched this workflow to create stylized trees quickly starting from a shape created on treeIt. To then create a Lowpoly and Highpoly on Zbrush and then doing the bake and texture on Substance Painter. It is a developing method so it can be improved. I hope it can be useful to you.

Round of applause for our sponsors

This screenshots are of meshes with 5/6k faces and was made in 60 minutes as a challenge to myself. So if you spend more time the result will be better.

Tutorial below.

This one, instead, is my first try where i spent more time detailing the trunk but  as you can see the braches broke because the workflow was not complete.

TUTORIAL

Step 1 : TreeIt

Create a model in TreeIt and export a fbx of it.

Step 2 : Zbrush

Import the model and delete the foliage in Subtool tab. We will add back later in Ue5.

Go to Polygroups tab and click Auto Groups.

Now on Split tab select Split to Parts.

Select parts and activate Zremesh, you can do all parts or just the one more visible. I usually Zremesh the trunk and thick branches. For Lowpoly version try Zremesh mode same o double mode.

Finally you can merge the parts in the Merge tab to create the Lowpoly and duplicate it for the start of the Highpoly. If you want to change the shape of the lowpoly do it and after you duplicate. Rename them with your nomenclature.

For Highpoly you have to go to the Dynamesh tab and do a high resolution Dynamesh with no blur (3000+). This will keep almost all the smaller branches from disappearing. After this I suggest you smooth the Highpoly and after that start putting on the details.

Export the meshes.

If you are able to do UVs on Zbrush you can do it and skip the auto unwrap on Substance Painter.

Step 3 : Substance Painter

Import the Lowpoly model.

Bake the Highpoly into the Lowpoly. Now you can do some textures.

Export the model ( if you did the auto unwrap) and the textures.

Step 4 : Unreal Engine 5

Import: TreeIt model, the model with the UV and the textures.

Create a material for the textures and for the foliage. If you are not familiar with foliage shader there are a lot of tutorials on youtube.

After this put in the scene the 2 meshes, duplicate the foliage of the TreeIt model.

Now copy the transform properties of the Lowpoly mesh and paste it to the foliage transform properties.

After this you can use the merge tool in the Tool dropdown of Unreal.

TUTORIAL COMPLETE.

Hope it was helpful for you and thanks to the time you dedicate to me.

Ciao!
