'Delusions of Grandeur'

The theme of this character study is 'Delusions of Grandeur' and shows Arnold admiring himself in the side mirror of a scooter. Mirrors and reflections are not new ideas depicted in visual imagery. As early as classical mythology we are introduced to Narcissus, an attractive young man who falls in love with his reflection. Arnold is a modern Narcissus with one difference; he is not half as handsome. The visual elements are used to dramatize Arnold's distorted self-image. The image light-heartedly warns against an obsession with oneself. It holds up a mirror for the viewer and prompts reflection on what is true, false and important in life.
