ESMA - 2023

This is an Illustration project in which we colourized a Hotel Transylvania 2 concept art made by Sylvain Marc.

We had the choice between 3 concept arts :

I chose the second one because it was the most inspiring to me. It looks like the image is split in two, with a dangerous part on the left, and a cozy one on the right. It's an image that conveys a lot of different emotions and not just one.

Reference search

At least 3 color and lighting references from motion pictures and 3 still life material references were needed.

Color tests

3 different color tests with different emotions and 2 color palettes were required.

The first idea is a teal and orange atmosphere with a warm and welcoming interior and a colder outside but not threatening, maybe with a clear blue sky.

The second is more mysterious with green and blue tones, like if we were underwater, but it's very bright and reassuring.

The third is the inversion of the first one, with a cold inside and a warm outside. It gives the impression that the building is dead and abandonned while there is a sunset outside.

I chose the first idea because it has in my opinion the most captivating atmosphere.
