This used to be a place of worship, a shrine of sorts. It was dedicated to a God that represented Nature, so there was not much architecture to begin with, even in it's Glory Days. This was an environment design exercise I did based on an older piece. I recycled the image of the statue I had already painted and played around with the setting and mood of the area, and thus also what the story of this place was.


I did a first color pass with the thumbnails I liked to decide which one worked better. I decided I preferred the mystery of the second one more.


Tried out different moods with the final pass, since this ruin could go both ways. Serene, reclaimed by Nature. Or mysterious, almost threatening. Maybe a portent of something bad that has happened here, a shrine desecrated.


Finally fleshing out the area by adding call-outs, defining the scale of man-made structures, elaborating what deity this shrine was dedicated to with it's design and also what flowers have overgrown this area. The flowers are key and important to the story of the place.
