Fear Tear is a third person shooter where monsters threaten to entrap a child in a nightmare world where they came from. These monsters take shape from the child's various toys and it is up to one brave toy soldier to rescue their owner from eternal slumber.

This project was to design a game level suited for a third person shooter with the 'Serious Sam' Series being the main inspiration for the gameplay. The player is a toy soldier trying to protect their owner from monsters while they are asleep. The game takes place in a nightmare world where evil creatures threaten to attack the child.

The current build is a work in progress as my role was to create one level for their game. The player progresses through the nightmare world while being confronted by various creatures which the player will have to shoot with 3 unique weapons. The standard issue toy soldier blaster, a laser railgun and a rocket launcher. The level is designed as a linear path with two optional side encounters that the player can enter to fight harder waves of enemies.

Below is a basic 2D map layout that I created in Photoshop in order to visualise my ideas into a workable guide. This layout marks out the main path, enemy encounters, pickups such as weapons and health, walls, trampolines to get over the walls, and hidden optional encounters which offer a greater challenge than the encounters found in the main path.

This is the completed level in Unity shown in the top view to match the layout.

The overall level layout has not changed from the sketch with some variations to enemy encounters and item pickups such as health items.
