Vehicle Design - Jelly Bean

by Phoebie on 29 Nov 2022

This vehicle is called "Jelly Bean". It is designed for 4 people. Inspired by Dr. Suess's style, you can see it is a round shape-based design, without any shape edges. A big front mirror allows the passenger to see the surroundings clearly. Besides, there are 2 big engines behind the main engine to let the vehicle move

PREPRODUCTION

For this assessment, we are to create a flying drone vehicle in either a Cyberpunk aesthetic or Dr. Seuss aesthetic. I had chosen Dr.Seuss because we are going to create a character later in assessment 2 in Dr. Seuss's style, so I want to make it consistent. Besides, I always wanted to create some cute designs, therefore I think this is a good chance for me to try out that style.

I gathered some references and was inspired by them. After that, I started to draw my thumbnails. I had drawn in a total of 10 thumbnails by using photoshop.

PRODUCTION

After that, I had started my journey of building the model in Maya. Firstly, I imported my turnaround as reference and started with a blockout of basic shapes. After I am satisfied with my basic shape, I then started to detailing it with smooth tool, quad draw. I also added some small elements to make it looks more semi realistic.

FINAL WORK

This vehicle is called "Jelly Bean". It is designed for 4 people. Inspired by Dr. Suess's style, you can see it is a round shape-based design, without any shape edges. A big front mirror allows the passenger to see the surroundings clearly. Besides, there are 2 big engines behind the main engine to let the vehicle move, followed by 2 side engines as support. After that, there's a cute antenna to receive information from the outside. As you can see, 2 lights in front and 2 at the side, all of which make the passenger see the outside clearer when they are in a darker place.
