I Always like to discover new art methods and it’s so challenging when we started working with Substance Designer. I was searching After my Indian Monumental Art in Substance Designer what is next?, and one of my colleagues suggested it to me about the Lambani culture, when we were in a discussion. So I decided to start making a Lambani people Costume. From the first Look of the Image from the internet I was lot in my mind about the nodes, but more than that i have to maintain the beauty, still i couldn't reach the level of details in this work, but i took More than one week to create this Material.
History: Lambani, Lambadi or Banjara Tribes are basically from Rajasthan, but before they settled in Rajasthan they originally came from Afghanistan, They were called Gor Banjara.
During the Mughal era they used Banjara people for Transporting goods, so after the Arrival of the British they Banned the Travelling of Banjara people and Most of the people settled in southern part of India, Karnataka, Andra , Kerala and Tamilnadu.
Saking Reference is the most Important matter while we are doing a Work. I’ve collected so many references for creating this Design, and what i Understood is different people and different places this design will change and they are creating these designs According to their Creativity, and most Important thing I observed that they are using 25 paise coin for there costume design, and this money now Indian Gov is not using for any Transactions but this subject when I started creating this work it’s gave me more Interest and Inspire for working. and I Started with Coin Design first.
As I mentioned before, I started making Coin Design only . And I Always want to seek inspiration to keep my workflow. The making of coin also has some interesting fun, that i never knew there is a node for creating Texts in Substance Designer so what i did i just created whole text shapes using Shape node and once i created all the texts then i discover there is a node for creating Texts, However Hindi Paise Letter I have to create, because there is no font for Hindi in my system, and this was the one of the important challenge in this work.
Roughness and Metallic Map Issue
Well this was more confusing when i tried to adjust the value of this material, the challenges in this section is three different materials are clustered here. And One is a coin, second is a mirror and the third one is a cloth, so the challenge is, these three materials have Different roughness and metallic values, while doing this, I was messed up with these nodes arrangement, But once i completed the main section i just come up with an idea that why don’t we can divide these material into three sections using level node like for coin we can add one level node like that. So I added a level node for each material then I combined it with a blend node. After an arrangement like this I am able to adjust the different values using different nodes in a less confused and comprehensive way.
While using Substance designer everyone can relate this thing, so many node clusters will be created. So that is becoming more confusing and isn’t a comprehensive way to develop a Professional workflow. I used here frame for each node section, and one of the most important things here while working we will get some idea of mixing up nodes. At that particular moment it’s hard to arrange everything in a Rule structure. And my workflow always depends on the situation and ideas. It will vary.
The Map view
The Most Important for Presenting a work is Final Render. Different mediums we can use for rendering, but mostly Artists are suffering to take render from Maya, Marmoset or other related software. But what I understood from my own experience Substance designer has it's own two render settings, open GL and Iray Render and also we can use Unreal Engine for more detailed render.
