Champion's Portal
A portal I designed and modelled, ready for game implementation for a Game Art course
This task involved designing and modelling a game-ready asset through a focus on the production pipeline. The theme was an otherworldly fighter. I decided to design and model a portal that would lead to the champion's homeworld.
Moodboards
I looked at existing images of portals in games, illustrations and models by other people to be inspired.
I also considered what textures I could use for my own design
Initial Sketches
These were just a few of my initial sketches that I ended up not using, as well as a few of the inspirations for the shapes and designs
Final Design
This was the final design I decided to go with.
Low-Poly Blockout
This was the first stage of modelling the actual asset. I used an image plane to get the shape correct, with a few minor tweaks for the placement of some aspects of the design.
High-Poly Sculpt
I proceeded to build upon the the Blockout by adding bevels, and sculpting details into the model
In-Game Render
After sculpting the details, I retopologized, UV unwrapped and textured in Substance Painter, before bringing the asset into Unity and adding particles for the fire and portal as well as lighting.
