Round of applause for our sponsors

Like most of my projects, I started with a base-mesh to complete this one. The base-mesh I chose was relatively simple and unposed, but it gave me a solid base to work from and saved me time by not having to start from scratch.

I started my process by first posing the arm and hand of the base-mesh. I then added the sphere and posed each finger around it to match the reference photo. I found this step pretty challenging, as each finger was bent at both joints and needed to be positioned in its own, slightly different way. To overcome this, I masked off one section of one finger at a time and used the gizmo tool to position each section into the right angle. Working like this helped me take the process one step at a time and keep me from getting overwhelmed. I was also hard to get the ball the correct size and in the right position in the hand. I found that getting this part right just took a little bit of trial and error; resizing it and moving it until I was happy with how it looked. Having multiple reference photos were vital in the entirety of my process because I work closely from to get the most accurate reproduction.
