The Facade Project: Thought Overhaul

The project consisted of creating the facade of a building from concept to finish, taking into account that eventually we would create an animation around it. I decided to create a kind of supercomputer like bubble gum factory in the clouds, which would serve to reproduce the behavior of the human brain when overthinking and to eventually conclude that we are never alone.

Beaming with life, the supercomputer like gum factory engulfs the approaching flying bubble gums carrying the thoughts of individuals around the world. The bubble gums get processed and five screens throughout the building light up with "I'm alone". The messenger immediately starts pressing buttons and pulling levers from the control panel knowingly, and so the factory performs the given task: the before separated dots in the world globe merge in one place and the factory screens turn from “I’m alone” to “I’m not alone”.

Ultimately, the building's function is to transport the bright colored ingredients throughout the edifice while it processes the different thoughts that continually fly inside the factory looking like bubble gums. Scattered throughout the façade we will find screens displaying the before gum-like thoughts, that will serve to ultimately enact the thoughts that we as human beings ‘chew on’ way too much, the ones we overthink and turn around and around even when the taste is gone.

The purpose of the façade’s appearance is to represent, given that through the animation I want to speak about loneliness and self-isolation, the idea that all the mentioned judgments of value that sometimes rule our inner thoughts are generated by us based on the assumptions we have about the reality that surrounds us, hence the reason why the façade is a factory of sorts, a generator of thoughts. A factory that by continually displaying the self-depicting phrases, mirrors our conduct as human beings, but by being actively aware of it instead of passively subjecting to it. It recognizes the origin of the thoughts and by understanding, it liberates them by connecting those who have the same. It ultimately represents us, our behavior and how because we are able to generate problems we are also able to generate solutions.
