Samurai Lobster - Artstation Challenge Feudal Japan (WIP)

Quick posing. It's my first time using the zbrush rig and i am still figuring it out. Unless i put a lot of zspheres, there is deformation on the plates so maybe i'll switch to maya. I also did the uvs of the different texture sets and the saber. 

 I think i am done with retopo. I also tried to clean up some shapes that i got a bit messy in zbrush. I still don't have some proportions right. I think i got the armor right but i am not satisfied with the head. 

I modified the proportions and quickly colored it in zbrush to get a feel of the character. I added ropes with maya. They differ a little bit from the concept but i wanted to base myself on traditional japanese knots.

I added the armor, I still don't have the right proportions, gonna work more on it.

I did the rough body of the ebi shogun in zbrush with zpheres and dynamesh, i am going to start placing the armor and ropes/rubans in maya now. It was hard finding the balance between the shrimp and lobster characteristics.

So this is a project that i started for the artstation challenge Feudal Japan : The Shogunate under the category "Film/VFX Character Art (rendered)". I got hired for my first cg job during the contest (yaaay) and i had to move for it, so i unfortunately couldn't finish the challenge in time. 
But i really like this character and so i will finish it and continue the blog post here.
