This is the art test I did for Cloud Imperium Games.
A few notes about the environment:
- I only used tileable textures in combination with a trim and decal sheet.
- All the color information was done in engine, the textures are only used as a mask and get tinted in the shader.
This workflow allowed me to be quite flexible and wait with color till the end and focus more on value and readability.
- For the meshes I used weighted normals and decals with POM to achieve the "highpoly" look
- The particle effects are from the UE4 Engine Content and tweaked to fit my liking
- I spent roughly 70 hours on this project
