First attempt at creature sculpting, Blastoises was always a favorite and I hope I did it justice.

Hello everybody!

This is my first attempt at a creature sculpt. I am a child so of course I had to do a Pokemon and I was super inspired when I saw LindseyWArt's concept for Blastoise. This is my first post on the site so I hope it does well here and that I get to connect with all you awesome people!

Hope you enjoy!

Final composited render, I would have loved to add some fluid simulation but what grad student has time for that? lol

Before and after compositing shots. I always try to make my compositing improve, I think it is a huge step that I need much improving on.

Render passes that looked pretty cool on their own cause why not?

In the middle of texture painting I thought to myself "ooo, I should make it look like he just came out the water!". Thankfully, Substance Painter made that process a little easier than I initially thought it would be. Oddly enough, I used a modified burn particle brush to get an effect I liked.

This was the basic node network I ended up with for my materials. Using the curvature map to add detail to the specular and roughness weights is something EVERY 3D artist must try if they haven't. It sells the effect so much more in my opinion.

Lastly, a short snippet of my progress throughout the sculpting process. My blockout was terrible and redone many times so don't think it actually progressed this way 100% lol.
