Round of applause for our sponsors

I've wanted to work in the creative field, specifically games, for as long as I can remember, but couldn't figure out what role I wanted in the industry until I took an art class in high school. For the first time I found an activity I could pour hours into and be motivated to work on during my spare time. It gave me a way to express the ideas I had in my head but could never articulate using words.

My realization came in my junior year of high school. I was doing research to find internships I would enjoy and I started exploring the Pixar in a Box modules on Khan Academy. At the time, I was taking AP Physics and Math courses and struggling in them, but watching the Pixar in a Box videos made me so fascinated by the fact that I could take subjects and concepts that I struggled with and combine them with my interests in technology and creativity to create something amazing on screen.

I have always loved making art, but was never interested in creating the kind of fine art I learned about in school or saw in modern art museums. I first found concept art through Art Of books and later through online communities, and was thrilled at the possibility that making this type of art for a living was actually an achievable goal.

I took a blind step by pursuing 3D animation in university, but I really committed when I saw my animation progress from gross blocking, into something that resembled the real world! When the arcs and timing hit just right, that's the best feeling. When people would laugh or relate to something I animated too?! That's even better.

Throughout my life, I would typically find myself creating and designing in video games. I was fascinated by the process of creating and immersion. I set out going into Uni doing CS, however along the road, I felt a disconnect and concern with how this possible future would lead. I feared for regret and yearned for expression. I made a joint decision to pursue a pulling feeling by switching to the arts. So far, this self-motivated drive has left me insatiable to learn and discover.

I drew funny comics in when I was in elementary school and made my friends laugh. They encouraged me to keep doing it and I learned how to animate in high school and am determined to improve my art through college and beyond.

In middle school, my friend brought up the idea of wanting to work in video games. Her suggestion brought me curiosity and realize there are actually artistic jobs. Especially since video games have great combination of art, music, programming, and a player to choose the way to play it.

I can't even remember when I first wanted to be involved in creative media. There was some point in preschool where I wanted to be a doctor or a tiger when I grew up, but from then-on I wanted to be an illustrator. I've always loved drawing and sculpting and painting, and it's always been my dream to being able to make a career out of it.
