Round of applause for our sponsors

By ninth grade, I was not sure where my future will take me during that period, but I know art will be involved. That year, students in each of our classrooms were required to complete a career profile, including several questionnaires. I've done mine. An animator was one of the first things to come out of the result, and I couldn't have been happier. My interests and ambitions led me to choose a career in this field above other possibilities.

When I was in high school, I watched the behind the scenes specials for How To Train Your Dragon and it fascinated me. I wanted to create characters and stories the way that these animators did, but I had no idea how. Then when I entered the Animation and Visual Effects program at Red Deer Polytechnic, I fell in love with character animation and decided to make it the focus of my study. I have always enjoyed video games, and animated features and shorts. After working for 10 years as an art studio technician, and at the same time dabbling in 3D software art, I decided to switch up my career and go back to school for 3D Animation.

When I was nine, I used watch a show where they would review and preview current and upcoming releases. They had showcased artists working on the original Homeworld(possibly the second) in an episode. After seeing that art could be a viable career, I had known from that point forward that this is what I wanted

I remember dreaming about it as a kid when I watched movies like The Secret of NIMH or Treasure Plant wanting to make something as captivating as that but I didn't realize it was something I could legitimately pursue as a career until I was in high school. Anything in the arts wasn't really recognized as a real skill where I grew up, we didn't even have art classes past elementary school. So getting to join and be a part of this is amazing

After watching Youtube videos of animation breakdowns and inspiration from my favorite video games/movies, I realized that 3D was a perfect career for me. It blended together almost everything that I was interested in, such as acting, storytelling, the study of human body language/emotions, attention to detail.
