I was always a really big fan of videogames so when I grew up I knew that what I wanted was entretainment, looking more deep into it I found out that there was a million of different positions and departments so from all of them the one that always draw my eye and make me blink in emotion was the FX department.

I first knew that I needed to work in Visual Effects when I was ten years old and I watched Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for the first time. I saw those giant spiders in the scene in the woods and I was both disgusted and awed at the same time, while simultaneously being sucked into the film and transported to a new world. Since then I've wanted to give others that same feeling of losing oneself in a new world.

When I got into graphics and kept learning ahead until I found Houdini

After studying oil painting and computer science, visual effects seemed like the perfect medium to continue making my art in a more technical and controlled way - the perfect industry to merge visual beauty with technical problem solving. I recently graduated from the Effects Technical Director (FX TD) Program at Lost Boys | School of VFX. Now I'm working with Rocket Science as an FX TD. I have always had a love of movies and great special effects. Being able to leverage technical knowledge in order to craft amazing visual effects greatly appealed to me.

When I was young I was heavily influenced by Japanese animation, such as Ghost in the Shell, and wanted to become an animation director. In 1999, however, I saw The Matrix for the first time and was so thoroughly impressed I decided to study film instead. In 2009, after seeing the hyper-realistic solo work of VFX artist Alex Roman and the movie Avatar, I realized the full possibilities of VFX and decided to become a VFX artist.

My interest for visual effects clicked back in the 90s, when I first watched the Stargate movie and like many other people, Jurassic Park. It was fascinating how these movies managed to transport me to places otherwise unimaginable. Over time I've developed a bias towards Science Fiction, a prominent genre for Visual Effects in the creative media industry.

I first realized that I wanted to work in the creative media and entertainment industry when I was talking to a friend who is a senior compositor and he was explaining his work. After I learned a little about the industry pipeline, I realized that my passion for arts could finally become a career.

The original Star Wars trilogy inspired me to want to make movies and learn about special effects. A talk I attended by Rob Coleman from ILM in San Francisco inspired me to learn more about how computers are used to make movies. After I became a student at Lost Boys, I met many creative, intelligent, skilled people who shared a similar passion for movies and VFX. They helped me gain the skills I needed to become a professional VFX Artist and find a job in the industry.

I've always enjoyed drawing and I wanted a career in a creative field. I also had an interest in film and made quite a few short films with my friends when I was younger. I then got older and found out about careers in visual effects. It was a perfect combination of my main interests, so I decided to study it full time. The more I learned I felt more drawn to compositing than anything else. I loved seeing the final image come together.

I started developing creative content during the second semester of my multimedia technical school and it granted me a great passion for compositing. Only after a few years was I able to get into the visual effects industry, and I believe it's a great place to express my work and put my perspective on the screen.

I've always enjoyed making sketches with my friends during my teenage years. The big VFX blockbusters at the time always fascinated me and I would often imagine imitating them with my own creations. Though not actually possible, we would often dabble with simple effects. Much later, a very important mentor of mine would introduce me to Compositing and I immediately knew what I wanted to do from then on.

In the movie: Contact, the young protagonist rushes upstairs to the medicine cabinet in her bathroom in slow motion and the camera moves “through the mirror.” When I first watched it, I didn’t think much of it but when someone pointed it out to me, I was really curious how it was shot so I read interviews of people who worked on the movie. I thought they were coolest people and their jobs were so fun. I wanted to be a part of that excitement so decided to switch careers into VFX.

I first realized I wanted to work in creative media when, at the age of 14, I discovered Adobe Photoshop. I went on to teach myself the program and fell in love with the medium. By the end of high school, I instinctively wanted to pursue programs in digital arts, but ultimately chose to pursue a more traditional university education. It wasn't until 3 years after I graduated from university that I rediscovered my passion for digital media and actively began working to make a career out of it.

I first wanted to start working in this industry when I saw the 1950 French fantasy film Orphée five years ago. The film is a contemporary retelling of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus, and it involves a famous poet falling in love with Death who is played by María Casares. The film uses simple special effects to create amazing worlds and mystical events. When I saw this film I knew I had to work in this industry so I would be able to create the miraculous things I saw in this film.
