Uncover Hidden Talent: Hire the World’s Top New Digital Artists
Through my degree of Bachelor of Design (Animation & Illustration), I was first shown the programs Nuke, Maya and Houdini. There were some projects we had where we needed to be able to edit a shot; doing some paint & roto, compositing or creating our own 3D animated shots with our own rigged models and backdrops. These programs started to really interest me, and I found it exciting to be able to be a part of what brings a shot to life.
For as long as I can remember I have enjoyed entertaining people, however it wasn't until my penultimate year of school where I fully committed to pursuing a career in the industry. I did this by completing a Certificate II in Creative Industries at the time, which was then followed by a Certificate III in Screen and Media before continuing with the Bachelor of Film and Television at UniSA.
I’ve wanted to work in this industry ever since I heard that cheesy phrase, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”. I was very young then, and I've grown to learn that work is work, however a certain fulfillment and joy comes from work like this. Work that you can be proud of playing a part in. I fell in love with entertainment media a long time ago, and have ventured to play a pivotal role in it. My passion is visual effects that enhance stories.
I have working in retails for the past 20 years and enjoyed it a lot but always had a feeling of missing something very creative from my life. I was conducting a skills audit on myself one day and laying out a 5 year plan when it hit me that I did not see myself working in this industry for the next 5 years. I immediately booked a career counseling session and wanted to explore options in the creative inducted with real world job opportunities. I found VFX and I haven't looked back since.
Back in 2016 I attened a VFX studio for work experience and got to see how the industry operated, I was amazed at the behind the scenes of film and TV and wanted to know more. After studying at UniSA for a couple of years I found that I really enjoyed working with effects and decided to do the VFX placement at Rising Sun Pictures in collaboration with the University of South Australia.
In 2018 I played a game developed by developer Quantic Dream called: "Detroit: Become Human". I was absolutely fascinated by the high detail motion capture work as well as CGI implemented assets and overall the combined efforts of all departments that made it look so amazing. At the time I was a tech support agent for a bank and our branch was being made redundant so I had the choice of looking for another IT job or trying something a little more interesting but still on the same avenue.
