Uncover Hidden Talent: Hire the World’s Top New Digital Artists
I've been busy with creative work since I was a young child. In highschool I realized I wanted to give it a try and work in the creative industry. I started out with an animation study at Deltion in Zwolle until I realized I found the interaction between characters and people more interesting. I eventually went to HKU to fullfill this dream of becoming a character/creature designer.
I first realised I wanted to work in the creative media and entertainment industry when I just graduated from middle school. Creating and consuming art had always been part of my life. The thought that I could possibly make a living by doing the things I love most is what fueled me to take the leap and pursue this as a career path!
I always had an interest in computers and art, but never really thought that art was viable as a career choice until I decided to study computer science after highschool. During my time there I discovered that there is a lot more you can do with art than just painting stern looking people with oils. After that I decided to brush up on my skills and apply for the HKU, and here we are.
I have always had a passion for storytelling, however I was never sure about the medium I wanted to do that in. I always used to do traditional drawing and sculpting and eventually enrolled into the game-art study of the HKU as a 2d concept artist. Eventually halfway through my first year I got introduced to 3d and it was a match made in heaven for me.
I was about the age of 15/16 when knew I wanted to get into the game industry. Back then I was still finding my way through all the possibilities of what could be done and what I wanted to focus on. But my love for games and how they were made only kept growing. I've known what I want to do for a while now but i keep finding new things I'd like to explore.
I've always been a creative person, but it was in secondary school that I started to realise I wanted to do it for a living. Determined to make it work, I looked into countless art-related schools in the Netherlands and Belgium. Eventually I ended up at HKU University of the Arts Utrecht. I felt as if I had entered an entirely new world, but I also felt that I had found where I wanted to be.
As a child I really enjoyed drawing pictures of the games I played at the time(Sly Cooper, Maplestory). One day, my primary school held a Halloween art contest which I participated in. I drew a picture of a slime monster that was really well received. As i was looking around, I saw a bunch of kids waiting in line to vote on my drawing. And I won the contest! That's the moment that I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the creative field.
After working 8 years as a science educator and successful youtube creative creator, I have decided to combine my background in mathematics, physics, astronomy and chemistry with my hobby of making games. That is why 3,5 years ago I joined one of the best Art Universities in the country to study Game Technologies, slowly turning my hobby into my profession. My succesful games Minecraft were the big trigger that made me reqlize what I want in life.
