Round of applause for our sponsors

When I was 15 years old, I did a summer program at Columbia College Chicago that was intended to teach high schoolers. It was a month long course that sampled the game art major. I absolutely loved it and knew that 3D art is what I want to do.

I first realized I wanted to work in this industry when playing mmos and having many amazing social experiences, and memories. Looking back at those experiences and memories I really wanted to provide this experience or help provide this experience to others and this is why I wanted to join or work in this industry.

I have wanted to work in the creative media and entertainment industry since the start of my time in high school.

When I was in high school I spent the most effort on my on my own personal creative projects. It wasn’t until I got a part time job that I hated did I truly realized what I wanted to do with my life.

I realized that I wanted to work in the creative media industry in elementary school, about 6-7th grade.

I've loved games since I can remember, and when I realized I could have a job in making them I knew that was for me. I didn't know until High School when I started learning 3D programs like Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD that I knew I wanted to use 3D in a creative way. I started learning Maya in community college and I've continued to work in Maya and more programs like Substance Painter for the past 2 years at Columbia College Chicago.

A little more than a year ago, I decided to pursue my dream to become a VFX artist. I was a little undecided about my life’s plan, but my love for film and photo-realism finally took over me and I was ready to do something about it!

My twin brother and I when we first played Mario brothers only the Nintendo Entrainment System. We bonded by playing video games so much that I always knew I wanted to create the same experience for others.

I started making videos with Legos and video games back in middle school and since then I've been learning slowly how to edit and work a camera. During highschool I worked on trying to be a game designer and when I saw the reality fade for that job, I started to work more on editing and my camera. I then got a DSLR and I started watching more important films and TV to understand what I needed to do.

When I was 2 years old I went to see Fantasia 2000 in theaters and I've wanted to be a filmmaker ever since.

I distinctly remember watching the bonus features of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl" and having a moment of realization. Before that moment, I didn't know that visual effects was a career I could pursue. From then on, I spend most of my free time learning how to animate and edit video. Eventually, I found my way to being a digital compositor.

During high school, I fell in love with how beautiful games were becoming. I knew that I wanted to be a part of that process and create art for games as my career.

I have always wanted to work in a creative field, first as a muralist and next an author. When it came time to think seriously about higher education, I considered my skills and interests and found the place where those things intersected. Literature, illustration, and theater had always been central to my life, and I found that I could utilize all of these together in animation.

I first wanted to work in the industry after graduating from high school.

At first I wanted to do concept art for video games when I was in high school. I had been playing games sense I can remember, and it wasn't a question what I wanted to do when I was finished with school. I loved to draw growing up so was set on going to school for after I graduated. When I got to college I discovered how much I loved to 3D model. That's when I made the switch to wanted to be a concept artist to a 3D artist!

I have wanted to be an artist ever since I was a young child. After watching many of my friends have unsuccessful careers in illustration, I decided I wanted to learn 3D art as well. I chose the video game industry as I've been playing games for as long as I can remember as well, and it would be great to be a part of something that I love.

Im High School I learned about being able to work in the entertainment industry through another student that wanted to as well! I thought my passion for creating and games went well together!

The beginning of this year

I have known I wanted to work with games ever since I was a child, specifically third grade. I fell in love with the games industry early on in life because of the impact it had on my childhood. I realized I wanted to create something that has a positive impact on other kids like me someday.

After I graduated high school, I really wanted to do something to explore my creativity that I couldn't do during my high school. I had always loved creative media and entertainment, so I figured I would like to be a part in creating what I like.

Ever since I first started reading online articles, watching YouTube videos, and really getting into games (Sophomore in high school) I wanted to be a creator. I didn’t ever think I would be able to make it though so I started down a path of something different. But in 2016 I was incredibly unhappy with where my life was going and decided to pursue my dream of being a game creator.

I decided to jump into creative media when I realized I was miserable taking classes for Court Reporting. I was always interested in the making of animations and video games so I turned my evening research into a Bachelor's Degree.
