I have always had both a love of movement and art. I grew up as a dancer and rock climber, and began to appreciate very concise and formulated movement. Between these two passions, the obvious course of action for me was to become an animator and create movement for others to appreciate as much as I do.
After taking a really interesting 3D course in high school, and learning that there was a college in my state that had a Game Art and Animation major, I knew that this was a career that I wanted to pursue and dive headfirst into. Even though I am still in college and there is much to learn about the industry, I knew that this career path would keep me motivated and passionate about art, and excited to go to work every day.
Towards the end of high school I shifted interest from architectural drafting to 3D modeling. I've always been interested in interactive media, so once that shift happened, I became extremely invested. Growing up I played a ton of ROBLOX, but I never saw game development as a career, but visiting Champlain College proved that it was, especially for me. I haven't looked back since!
I've had a passion for art and video games ever since I was young. I like creating my own characters and stories, and that has stuck with me, even during the few years in high school where the passion waned. It was resparked by my art teacher senior year, and she helped me realize that I wanted to be a professional artist, specifically in the game industry.
I first realized I wanted to work in the entertainment industry when I started reading the comic books Calvin and Hobbes, these books created great memory's for me and I wanted to return the favor by helping to create story's and protagonist for the kids of tomorrow. I want to give them someone to look up to and to support there imagination and let it flourish, creating new innovation and untold story's for the future.
I have always been creative, but the first time I saw it as a career path was during high school. I was taking art and music classes, discovering new media. Through the examples I discovered on my own and what I learned in my classes, I realized the relevant applications of these skills to jobs in the real world. Applying to college helped this direction even more when I found career driven programs in the arts and creative media areas.
I started in school as a Game Designer but had a desire to try out 3D Animation, and just after starting my first class with an introduction to animation, I realized that the art aspect was where I was destined to be. I grew up drawing all the time and even won a superlative in high school for it but I never thought I could find a love for it like I do now.
When I was growing up, I was always mesmerized by the gorgeous background work I was seeing on the Pokémon cartoons and on other games and media I viewed. I always felt a pull towards the creative field in many different ways not just in traditional art but with music and now more recently I have started dabbling in animation and 3D modeling. It has been a dream to begin taking the next steps towards my dream of working for a game.
A few years ago I decided I wanted to go into the game art field. I got an internship with an independent game developer in junior year and made concept art for his game. The next year I made another game with a few friends for our capstone. And know I’m working on my own game while getting ready to make my way into the industry.
Growing up I always loved hearing new stories and coming up with worlds that entertain and enthrall those who experience them. This is when I learned that I wanted to create things that make people feel. I want to create games that form memories with players and worlds that consume those who interact with them.
I've been pursuing art since I was in middle school, but when exploring what I wanted to focus on when looking at different college options, I was surprised at how many different ways my art and creative capabilities could be applied to my career. Although my major is focused towards video games, I plan to explore how I can apply my skills to different creative disciplines.
My family is full of creatives. Many of them work in more traditional mediums like painting or sculpture which I was never really able to get the hang of. It was in Middle School whilst playing Destiny that I really began to understand how video games can be used as a creative outlet. Since that moment, I knew that working on games was what I wanted to do.
Growing up, I was heavily involved in the Destination Imagination (DI) after-school program. DI allowed me to combine my love of technology and my, unknown, love for the arts and collaboration. I went to college as a cybersecurity major but felt creatively unsatisfied. I changed my major to game design, and eventually again to game sound design. Sound design once again allows me to use technology to creatively and collaboratively bring a world to life, just like I once did in DI.
