Icy Blast

This is the wrap-up piece for my junior year. I had so much fun putting together everything I learned this past year, including lighting, shading, and compositing, some tips I picked up from participating in Pwnisher’s render challenge, and even using Marvelous Designer on the tiny character I placed on the icy Bi.

This is the wrap-up piece for my junior year. I had so much fun putting together everything I learned this past year, including lighting, shading, and compositing, some tips I picked up from participating in Pwnisher’s render challenge, and even using Marvelous Designer on the tiny character I placed on the icy Lion Bi statue.

I came across some sketches and pictures online of the treasures collected in the Palace Museum in Beijing. That gave me an idea: why not model the props first and then build an environment around them? This is my first environment art not based on any concept art, just developing as my perceptions changed over time.

In the later stages of creating this, I was heavily influenced by Frozen II and glaciers in Iceland.

The last two pictures are my initial trials before starting this project. The girl in the teapot is a model from Pixar Renderman.

Responsible for all other aspects.
