3D characters - 2023/2024 models

by ffrancescami on 17 May 2024 for Rookie Awards 2024

These are some of my favorite models that I loved creating between 2023 and 2024. With some of them I wanted to experiment with new techniques that I don't usually use, such as textures and UV, while others were prepared to be printed and most some are resin statues that have also been sold.

3D characters - Morrigan

To find inspiration on new 3D models to create for 3D printing I search online, and on ArtStation I came across the concept created by FENGLI LEE (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/yDNDgK).

I was immediately attracted to her, I didn't know much about the character but I wanted to sculpt her in 3D.

I love the pose that the artist gave him, very different from those already created for this character. I sculpted the model with Blender, directly created the posed model using various spheres and cylinders, then for practical reasons I had to add a base, so it could be 3D printable.

The character itself is simple but very special, every detail makes her unique.

3D characters - Mecha cat

This character was born from the concept of the artist EchanisEnicha (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/vJJm3Y) that I found on ArtStation.

For this character I wanted to try making UVs and textures, using Substance 3D Painter and Blender, and Photoshop for post-production.

To learn, I looked for tutorials online, it was difficult, but the result satisfied me!

3D character - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Together with a colleague we wanted to create a line of resin statues on Ninja Turtles, and looking at some references online we found one from a concept artist who had created some comics and covers for Ninja Turtles.

I sculpted all the models on Zbrush, I started from an A-pose except for Donatello (purple) because I needed to bend the arm to model the bent muscle. Then I started preparing them for 3D printing.

I prepared all the turtles for printing, with pins and holes to fit the various pieces together and once they were all printed and placed side by side you can see that the base is actually a road that connects them all.

3D character - Arcane Jinx

Jinx from the League of Legends animated TV series ARCANE was the first large-scale 3D printed model.

I really liked this character in the series and so I decided to model him in 3D. For the pose I was inspired by the video of the Imagine Dragons song, which accompanies some scenes from the series.

To model her I used Zbrush and many references of the character. I started with a T-pose and once I finished sculpting I posed it and adjusted the various pieces. I then started preparing it for 3D printing.
