Hi there, I'm Maksat from Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) and i'm self-taught 3d visualization enthusiast. I'm going to you to take you to a journey into my thought process while i was creating my : Apocalyptic abandoned bus stop project. Hope you enjoy it.

Reference and idea.

In a really rare rainy day in Ashgabat i was driving past a bus stop right in front of my apartment and got striked with an idea of an apocalyptic scene relating to my city. So i took couple photos of a bus stop wich later served me as a reference.

Modeling

Since I've been posting my renders in my socials lately as soon as I started modeling I knew that I'm going to model a non distructed version first. I wanted kind of realistic look but not exact real-life look alike.

Distruction and getting into main idea of a scene

Before I start explaning my distruction process I want to give you a background of the area I'm from. Ashgabat is the capital of Turkmenistan, much of which is covered by desert. The country has a predominantly hot climate and the surrounding fauna corresponds to this. Most of Apocaliptic references and project on the internet is mostly covered with moss, massive overgrowings, graffity etc. But my country was different. So from the start i wanted kind of orangy western themed look.

And desert of course ment that the scene should have a deserty yellowish mist to it.

* My Angelina Jolie render in turkmen national wears.

So distractions i made was mainly metal plates twisted this and there, broken glasses, weared details etc. No moss and no Graffity because graffities are not in our culture. In todays Ashgabat you really can not find one.

Other than that i chose HDRI that i really thought that really would set a tone to a scene which led me too texturing and a final render.

Texturing

Mainly i used procedrual wered metal materials.

Some of the textures and model were get from polyheaven (HDRI, tyres, grass, barrel).

Ground and concrete are mixed Pbr Material.
