Stylised European Street

by skepticaldragon on 12 Apr 2024 for Rookie Awards 2024

This stylised environment was the final project for my Master's degree. It draws inspiration from Overwatch and the town in Italy called Manarola. Presented within UE5, everything was made by me.

Round of applause for our sponsors

This project was the final piece submitted for the completion of my Master's degree.

Using inspiration from the Overwatch maps Dorado and Paraiso and the real-life city of Manarola, Italy. I am proud to present my environment: Stylised European Street.

Props

Props were modelled in 3ds Max and textured with Substance Painter. Various models used a high to low poly workflow, such as the AC unit, fire hydrant and satellite dish, others were modelled low/mid poly and made use of weighted normals.

Tiling Materials

I wanted this environment to make use of many tiling materials which could either be used alone or blended.

These were all made with Substance Designer.

Asset Zoo

Here is the asset zoo for this environment. As you can see the walls for the building were modular pieces. I wanted full control over how each building looked and how they could be changed easily in engine, however if I were to redo this project I would make the modular pieces larger.

Vespa

For this project we were tasked with creating two components which would be presented separately or together, where either component would make sense as it's own portfolio piece. I decided on modelling a Vespa as it would fit well within the environment and to also improve my hard surface/vehicle modelling skills.

This model used a high to low poly workflow. Both the high and low poly models were made in 3ds Max and textured in Substance Painter.
