Synopsis

A global pandemic has broken out where strong continued emotions or trauma can result in citizens turning into mindless monsters (called nightmares) unable to retain humanity. Scholars have studied the (lulla-bye) illness for many years but have yet to conclude why citizens develop these demons in their subconscious (it's suspected to be a virus but no cure is available yet)

However, scholars found that music can effectively destroy these demons and have developed a mechanism for stopping them: magical instruments. These weapons utilize the dream essence of the demons and require equally traumatized individuals to wield them, the more trauma the individual has, the more effective the weapon. They also found that nightmares revert back to their human form upon using sleep potions.

Because children/teenagers have stronger emotions, some special children (7-18 years old) are selected to go to the magical girl academy where they are taught how to sing/play instruments by elves and other combat skills.

Magical girls are also trained by succubi to learn how to infiltrate people's dreams in their sleep.

In order to incentivize magical girl applications, admitted magical girls are often paid lofty salaries after graduation. High ability magical girls also often have secret dealings with nobles/elites that provide them with wealth and power in exchange for specialised healing.

Lyra is one of the magical girls in the academy trying to solve the mysterious disappearance of her Aunt and the origin of the virus after her mom died investigating the source.

Characters

Lyra

Human (16 years old), Magical Girl candidate

BACKSTORY: When Lyra was a child, her mother (Moira) died in a huge fire in the Asterion University Library. Lyra was brought up by her father alongside her aunt (Rina) who was injured badly in the same fire. 

AGENDA: To search for her missing aunt and to solve the mystery of the Lulla-bye virus.

Sona

Volan (15 volan years, 3 human years), Year 1 Magical Girl

BACKSTORY: Sona was brought up in a strict household by her father (Caige) where nothing she did was ever good enough unless it could bring their family wealth and prestige. Eager for her father's approval and love, she chose to pursue a career as a magical girl.

AGENDA: To bring honour/wealth to her family by becoming a successful magical girl.

Rema

Succubus (23 succubus years, 920 human years), Magical Girl Academy Professor

BACKSTORY: Rema is a professor in the Asterion Magical Girl Academy that befriended Lyra's mother, Moira, a scholar from Asterion University. Angered by the assassination attempt made on Moira, she vowe to bring all those involved in the conspiracy to justice.

AGENDA: To investigate and gather evidence on the government conspiracy.

Ziv

Serpen (21 serpen years, 63 human years), Asterion Task Force Commander

BACKSTORY: Ziv was once a soldier ordered to assassinate Lyra's mother, Moira. Refusing to kill an innocent scholar, Ziv helped Moira escape. After years of hard work, Ziv rosed quickly through the ranks and became the Asterion task force commander. 

AGENDA: To investigate and gather evidence on the government conspiracy.
