What a challenge, I've spent so much time on this and it has been so rewarding.

I really feel like my skills have grown and I've found new ways to work with Substance painter in the process. I hope all of you have had as much fun as I have!

Update - 17 Jan 2024

DROP THE BASE!!!

Today I started work on the base, our gnome needs to stand on something and why not an old tree stump, with moss and mushrooms growing on it.

I made it including some damage in the back where it would have broken after it as sawed off years ago.

Some different mushrooms and tree fungus for variation.


Getting Close to the end now, and I would love some feedback on what you people think, on the base but also the rest of him. :)

IT'S ALIVE!

So today I have added some shading and highlights, also I thought the model could benifit from some baked lighting, I went pretty heavy on the baked lighting here. but I think it really brings him to life.

Also I corrected some minor details like the crooked seam on the hood and added some more detail to the eyes.

Getting Colorized!

Put in a pretty intense session and worked out the colors and materials all the different parts of the body should have, also I decided to sculpt the gloves fingerless to show the fingers for some added detail.

Tomorrow it's on to add highlights and shadows, maybe rework some of the colors, not sure about everything quite yet.

Also I still have the Base to think about, still not sure what to do woth it.


Update - 14 Jan 2024

I've continued Sculpting in blender and I am now finished with the body of my gnome. 

A jacket, vest, belt, pants, ankles and shoes.

not sure yet how to tackle the base, but I have some idéas.

With the extra time added I decided to take a shot at making another entry.

This time I will be making a gnome like character in a ghibli studios inspired style. also this time I will be sculpting the basemesh and baking a heightmap for some parts of the character.
