Update - 1 Jan 2024

Hi Everyone, here is the latest update of my tubbies mat.

I'm very happy to show you my final result!

I hope you can appreciate the enormous care I took to make the ears look real and belong to the fabric with the tools I had.

the first difficulty was in fact recreating ears without being able to sculpt them, so I created a 3D map in photoshop in order to have a base on which to work in substance.

then I worked even better on the seams of the suit of my tubbies and on the base, so that it gave the impression of being a cartoon-effect flowery meadow.

I hope with my work I have taken you back in time to when we watched cartoons on TV as children!

it was a challenge to recreate a character like teletubbies only with textures, but l'm very happy with the result obtained with the tools I had available, being my first time!

Update - 25 Dec 2023

Hello everyone! Here's a little update on my project. For this third WIP, I tried to improve some flaws that I didn't make my Tubbies Mat realistic enought.

Some of the flaws I initially noticed were the flat texture of the teddy fabric. I worked extensively on the height and layers to achieve an effect very similar to real teddy fabric.

I noticed another flaw when looking at my previous work in progress: the face appeared too flat when viewed from the side. So, first, I added volume to the entire facial area, choosing to emphasize the snout more, as the Teletubbies have a pronounced snout!

Secondly, I worked on the depht of the mouth to make it look truly open!

Later on, I paid more attention to the sheen effect on the face to make it even more velvet-like, a crucial characteristic for the Teletubbies.

After fixing these details, everything started to make sense. I also tried to give a different shape to the antenna on the head, because I observed the reference and the Teletubbies don't have a pointed antenna; Instead, it ends with a square tip.

Lastly, I decided to start the base, and my idea is to create a flowery meadow, but one that looks very unrealistic. I'll explain why: In the Teletubbies cartoon, the grass was actually synthetic, and the flowers were way too large to be real. That's why I'm emphasizing the base soon to build a grass effect and some oversized flowers.

What's missing now? My project is almost coming to an end, and now I want to work on  the effect of roughness, which can make everything even more realistic. Additionally, I want to focus a lot on the base, so stay tuned for the final release.

Update - 11 Dec 2023

Hello everyone! Here's a little update on my project. For this second WIP, I've tried to explore the numerous possibilities offered by Substance! I played a lot with the height, hand-painting details one by one on the face of my Tubbies Mat.

It's just a small test, so if you'd like, keep following me on this long journey! I hope you can appreciate it!

Update - 8 Dec 2023

Hello everyone! Here is my initial conceptual sketch for my partecipation to the Meet Mat 3- The 3D Digital Painting Contest.

My concept is inspired by the famous animated series "Teletubbies", which accompanied me throughout my childhood.

As a child, i remember this animated series as my favourite. I always loved the uniqueness of these little extraterrestrials and their way of living in a world made of technology that wasn't yet entirely commonplace.

A few years later, I chose to enter the world of 3D, fulfilling the dreams of that little girl who spent her days watching these characters directly from the future.

above you can see the study process of my concept, from searching for references to studying of materials to make my Teletubbies Mat as realistic as possible. This includes studyng the light on the belly that lights up with each call from a child around the world

And the study of the base... I still don't know which of the two bases i will choose among my ideas.

- The first represents the famous hole where, at the beginning and the end of the cartoon, the Teletubbies disappear.

- The second represents the famous hill where these extraterrestrials lived.

As you can see, i just made a simple sketch to help you understand how I will represent my Meet Mat.

STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT WIP!
