XAOMA

This is the Final Update of my Meet Mat 3 entry, Xaoma, a robot inspired by vintage game consoles.

Front and Perspective Shots

Some update on how it's progressed so far. I still have to work on back of the head and left arm. It doesn't match my reference just yet.

I created two base materials, ABS plastic and Corrugated Cardboard for Mat and base respectively.

A close up shot of ABS plastic, a commonly used material to make video game consoles. I used small subtle details like color noise, height noise and roughness variation to give it a realistic look. I made it into a smart material and applied it to both Body and Head of 3d model.

Corrugated Cardboard was slightly more difficult to create. It is three layered: Top textured Cardboard, thin paper and corrugated film at the bottom.

I created these three sub-groups. Then I painted a smart mask and applied to all three sub-groups. This gives it a torn out look.

I used simple cardboard photograph to create albedo, height and roughness map in Photoshop.

Repeated the same steps for corrugated layer

Xaoma

My concept art is a work in progress - I am planning to start from here and take keep adding more elements based on my references.

I created this reference board to help me decide the mood of Xaoma and its cardboard base. I took inspiration from each of these images and will be incorporating elements from each reference into Mat.
