Hello everyone, my name is Jules Darriulat! Welcome to my yearly concept art journey, from image sequence, environment, characters, vehicle and props I hope to show you how I work and think!

The Hunt

The Hunt is an image sequence project created using Blender, Quixel, Daz, Evee and Photoshop.
The goal was to create an intense story, different moods, interesting composition and narrative structure.
My thought process was for these concept to be used in a cinematic / movie production.

I always start by sketching everything and making sure all the design and composition decisions are taken. From there I directly jump to 3D. If I have any doubts I make a quick render and paint-over to plan my next step. Once I am happy with my scene, I render it and start the paint-over process.

The Hunt Characters

Here are the Hunt characters! I use a combination of 3D and 2D to efficiently create my designs.
The Queen, Priest and General will appear on The Hunt part II which is currently in the works.

Like the environment, I always start by sketching everything and making sure all the design decisions are taken. From there I directly jump to 3D. If I have any doubts I make a quick render and paint-over to plan my next step. Once I am happy with my character, I render it and start the paint-over process.

I try to balance the 3D / 2D by asking myself which medium is the most efficient for a given task.

The Damned

The Damned image series has been done using a combination of 2D and 3D techniques using various kitbash assets, Blender, Quixel, Daz, Evee real time renderer, Photoshop and Procreate.

I aimed to create key frames depicting the aftermath of a battle. The lighting, composition and storytelling were key. My thought process was for these concept to be used by a cinematic / movie production.

Time Travelers

I have used a combination of 2D and 3D techniques using various kitbash assets, Blender, Daz, Evee real time renderer, Photoshop and Procreate.

This project depicts two travelers travelling through time. The aim was to create a narrative piece and to have the two travelers look off compared to the rest of the painting. Emphasizing on the fact they are not home and do not belong in this time and space.

The carrier vehicle was designed to belong and fit with the military escort that accompanies the travelers.

2042 Civil War

2042 Civil War is a personal project in which I imagined different factions within a global conflict on the African continent in 2042.
Here are short descriptions for each faction.

- Government Army of the United Nations of Africa Elite Unit:
This unit is part of the Government Army of the United Nations of Africa.
The unit is made from heavily augmented elite soldiers. Known to destroy anything on its way this death squadron is feared by all.
-Milita of the liberated nations:
The militia used to be a branch of the Government Army of the United Nations of Africa.
They rebelled against the government in 2040 and started the conflict by claiming the independence of South Africa.
-Gemsbok Rebels:
The Gemsbok rebels work closely with The militia of the liberated nations. They are however active in the territories occupied by the Government Army of the United Nations of Africa. They are considered as a terrorist organisation by the government and are leading a civil war within the United Nations of Africa territories.
-Third eye terrorist group:
The Third Eye is a terrorist group financed by the Government Army of the United Nations of Africa and active within the territories of the liberated nations.
As a group of religious fanatics they are armed with cutting edge technology by the government causing chaos and fear in the liberated nations territories.

I have used a combination of 2D and 3D techniques using various kitbash assets, Blender, Daz, Evee real time renderer, Photoshop and Procreate.

Revenge

This key art concept was part of my training. It is the first piece I did using Blender. Here again I am trying to concept a compelling shot and narration.

Stylized work

Throughout my journey I also attempted to work with more stylized art-style. I am still exploring and experiencing with more simplified art-styles. It definitely isn't my comfort zone but practice makes better!

Post apocalyptic warriors

These characters are part of my daily training. I try to focus on shapes, design and narration. My goal is to create unique characters with a strong visual personality. Done using Procreate

Scarab King

Here is the Scarab King character concept and props. I have used some modelling to define the props shapes. The rest of the project has been done using Procreate.

Modular Gun

Modular gun design using 3D as a base. I have used Maya to define the gun shape. The rest of the project has been done using Procreate.

Gunner

This concept is another attempt at a more stylized art-style. Done using Procreate
