Hi, I'm currently a student at UTS ALA in Sydney Australia. I am aiming to become a Texture/Surfacing Artist on feature films. I hope you like my work.

Haunted House

I had always wanted to have a stylised environment piece for my reel so when I saw this awesome scene modelled by Malcom Hunt, I immediately messaged him asking if he would be willing to let me use it to further develop my surfacing and lighting skills.

Reference

When I started the project, I knew that I wanted the house to be unique, damaged and set in a foggy night-time environment. To this end I assembled a large reference board along with a couple of “hero references” that matched the theme I was pushing towards.

Process

I initially started this project using Mari however I ran into some licence issues early on and decided to move over to Substance Painter to avoid delays. I used this to create materials and textures for almost every aspect of the scene apart from the ground material which was acquired from Megascans and the Car which was surfaced procedurally in Maya. This project also allowed me to learn a bit more about Houdini which was used to create all the fog and smoke effects in the scene. Finally all compositing work was done in Nuke to make final adjustments to the image.

Skateboard

This project was completed during my time at AIE Sydney and was my first attempt at creating a production ready asset using Mari and Redshift.

Reference

To ensure I had the best possible reference I borrowed a friends old skateboard and created a 3D scan of it using Reality capture. This scan not only allowed me to ensure that my model was sized correctly but also created the cameras I would later use to project my initial textures in Mari.
