Bamboo Research and Training Center
this is my thesis project for last semester. I grabbed this opportunity to explore in different forms in Bamboo construction and also digged into 3d modelling.
This is a last semester's thesis project. 'Bamboo Research and Training Center' for NGO and the site was in Madhya Pradesh, India. I did research and gathered information regarding Bamboo as a constructional material and also did some case studies to understand bamboo.
For 3d visualisation, I started with sketchup block models to decide zoning and placement of buildings. After deciding the zoning started with detail models.
DESIGN OBJECTIVE: To design a residential institute at town. Used Bamboo and bricks as Structural and finishing material. The goal was to glorify properties of bamboo i.e. flexibility and stiffness together and hence used hyperbolic parabolas as some of its structural members. Hyperbolic parabola forms with straight lines and so do these parabolic members. Bamboo can easily go with other construction materials too, so I tried bamboo with glass, mud, bricks in interiors. With all these elements, I chose white plaster with bamboo's greenish yellow ochre color. As this Project was to be built in tropical climate courtyards and semi-open spaces are designed as interactive spaces too.
SITE MODEL
The main model is created in sketchup and walkthrough is rendered in Twinmotion.
Exploded Views of each structure
Every structure has its bamboo framing and bamboo mat over it. Waterproofing material sheet and bamboo shingles over it.
open staircase is the key feature of the courtyard so it is boldly framed with white frame.
Interior spaces rendered in Vray
