Rookie Awards 2024

PlaySide Studios is the largest independent games studio in Australia. Founded in 2011, its team prides itself on big ideas and the skills to deliver. This amazing opportunity is open to aspiring artists who want to experience what it is like to work in a games studio. The aim is to help kick start their career by working amongst renowned artists and gaining valuable insight into the games industry.

Opportunity

The winner will receive feedback from experienced artists on their work, developing their knowledge of the games pipeline and will be evolving their skill set on some of the most exciting video game projects in production.

Entry Requirements and Guidelines

• Individual entries only; no team or professional projects.
• Explain Your Work: Provide brief descriptions for each animation, detailing your creative process, techniques used, and any challenges encountered.
• Professional Presentation: Ensure your entry is well-organized, visually engaging, and easy to understand.
• Read the Rules to confirm eligibility.

Eligibility

• Entrants must be 18 years or older and have less than one year of professional experience in any of the creative industries featured in the contest categories, as of June 1, 2024. For further information please read the rules.
• Must be motivated to work in the art Department. Must have a passion for making games, with a strong willingness to learn.
• Must be able to complete the internship during the second half of 2024.
• Must legally be allowed to work in Australia. (Working visa not provided).

Judging Criteria

The judges are looking for artists that are ready for the challenges of being part of a games production pipeline. The judges will be considering your overall presentation, technical skills, creative skills, variety of content, and employment potential. Treat your entry like a job interview. You have one page to show how amazing your skills are.

• Review Past Winners: Gain inspiration from previous year’s entries.
• Watch Tutorials: Learn from online resources to enhance your entry.

Prize Details

• Internship (onsite)
• Studio Location: Melbourne, Australia.
• 4-week duration.
• No accommodation provided.
• Fully paid position.

How to enter

1. Click Submit Entry button to create an entry page.
2. Upload your best images, videos and supporting media using our entry page builder.
3. Select ‘Career Opportunities > Playside Studios’ as your nominated category.
4. Add details including a cover image, title, description, tags, and software used.
5. Accept rules and confirm eligibility.
6. Confirm & Submit your entry to judging panel.
