As part of my formation, we had to create a poster for the event of «La Nuit Européenne des Musées». The objective was to learn how to use motion design software.

As part of my formation, we had to create a poster for the event of « La nuit européenne des musées ».

As part of the European Night of Museums event, which takes place every year around May, we were asked to create an animated poster intended to be broadcast via urban digital advertising screens as well as on social networks.

The event organized by the Ministry of Culture and Communication consists of many free activities set up in museums which exceptionally remain open at night. More than 3,000 museums across Europe are taking part in the festivities.

After an analysis of the event activities and a reference search, I was able to brainstorm on themes and develop concepts linked to the place and the wandering for example. I then focused on the representation of the museum space. By taking up the iconography of the labyrinth, I evoke wandering in the museum space. The name of the event takes shape in the walls of the labyrinth and becomes an exhibition in the museum.

I then use my labyrinth system, on a black background to evoke the night, and I draw the motif of the labyrinth. A larger pattern allows for better readability.

The text placed on a yellow background simulates museum pieces and night lighting.

The poster consists of a labyrinth which evokes wandering accentuated by the movement of an entity along the labyrinth. The maze motif illustrates the complexity and diversity of the participating museums and the activities offered. The black background evokes the night. When the « room » is lit, the text is reveal. The lighting of the rooms is simulated by a yellow colored background. The black text revealed on a yellow background takes place like exhibition elements within the confines of the different museum pieces.

The typography drawn using a grid by José Simon embraces the geometry of the labyrinth and the entire poster. Drawn in a single line, the typography recalls the experience of museums, the path and the wandering. The last piece of the maze containing the details of the event represents a gift shop such as can be found in museums, positioned at the end of the route, just before the exit.

The poster then takes up the principles of the event, the museum space, the wandering, and the night.

You can see the poster animation below.

It was a fictional project carried out as part of my Bachelor Graphic Design training at ESMA Toulouse.
