Dancing Fur
A dancing James-Sallivan-like mannequin, groomed and simulated using vellum solver in Houdini.
I was curious to explore a good setup in Houdini for Vellum simulations on a moving grooming.
Despite the final result still having some imperfections (both in simulation and rendering), I am satisfied with the outcome.
In fact, rather than striving for the perfect final image, at the moment I am taking advantage of these exercises to become more familiar with Karma and Houdini. Following the improvements made to the rendering engine in version 20, I am excited about mastering Karma, especially because it is tightly integrated into the procedural structure of the program and offers an intuitive interface for creating mtlx materials.
A small test I conducted during this exercise involved the shader: I used geometry attributes to drive the color, for example, for the fur, creating a color ramp with two shades. Although I had experimented previously with Vellum and grooming techniques, this is the first time I am fully immersing myself in it, aiming to achieve maximum control.
Currently, I am already working on a new grooming project, but this time it will be static: I plan to recreate a cat's fur to practice on realistic details rather than focusing on motion simulation.
