I'm in! This post is just a quick look into what I'm intending to make for the Game Dev category, and what I've done so far.

Hi guys! This will be my second year participating in the Rookie of the Year Game Development Category. I will be creating at least one character model from scratch for my entry, which will be optimised to run in a modern game engine.

As a stretch goal, I would like to implement some animations. The exact nature of these will depend on how much time I have left. I'm thinking it would be cool to have an "intro" animation followed by a looping idle - like you might see on a character select screen in game.

I already have a few assets which I may end up using. Here's an anatomy study which I made recently, which will probably form the basis of my new character:

At the moment, I'm considering a number of options for how the character should look.

I rather like these concept images by Rok Kleva Ivančić, which they create for an Artstation competition several years ago. However, I'm not sure if using concept art for an Artstation competition might cause some issues?

In any case, I'm a sucker for scifi Westerns (Firefly </3) so if I can use these, I probably will!

Finally, I'd like to show off an early weapon asset sculpt:

Creating this was surprisingly simple - I'm using simple geometry with some booleans, + a voxel remesh modifier to clean up the jank caused by using bool objects. Because none of the modifiers are applied, it's also super easy to tweak!

That's all for this intro post. I intend to post updates at least once per week, so check in soon - and good luck everyone! :)
