Bingie is an app dedicated to helping everyone from movie lovers to binge watchers find shows, converse with fellow fans of their favorite franchises and overall, help users gain a more enjoyable experience when watching their favorite shows or movies.

While it provides countless of features that users can indulge in, it doesn’t necessarily cover all of the user’s issues and that is the goal of this case study: find out what are the pain points of binge watchers and what are the solutions to these.

Research Sprint

Concept Sprint

Before I settled on Bingie to redesign, while searching for an app that fit my list of criteria for this project, I came across a couple of other apps that had similar functions and features. So, I created a detailed analysis comparing Bingie to the two most similar apps I could find.

I then came up with some features I thought would help improve the user’s experience with the app and binge-watching which were:

Following that, I then included a site map and a user story map to help track out a proper flow of the app and help me visualize the linking of pages.

Once I decided on which features I was going to add and the main flow, I started creating my first wireframe prototype on Figma. I decided to go for a simple design layout.

After that, I began the concept test for the completed wireframe to gather feedback regarding the overall flow of the app and to see if the features implemented were well-liked.

Usability Sprint

Below are some progress shots of the screens development. Overall, there weren’t a lot changes made to the style as the weeks went by, just few adjustments here and there.

Once I had completed the version 3 for the hi-fidelity screens, I conducted an internal user test among the other students who were also taking this course.

I also conducted an External User Test, where I asked others around me who weren’t studying in the same course to complete a few tasks carried out in the app.

There were two modes carried out for the External User Test: Moderated and Unmoderated. I accompanied the interviewees and watched them complete the tasks for the Moderated mode while the interviewees for the Unmoderated mode completed the tasks on their own.

Handover Sprint

Listed below are my final UI screens.

I also created a style guide for the purpose of communicating the color palette, the fonts used and font sizes, the icon styles and their respective sizes, the forms and their states, and the illustrations with their measurements to the developer so that they’re aware of the specific details and measurements when coding out the app.
