Oni Mask and Marble Bust Props
A couple of my props made during my final year at Escape Studios
I sculpted this Oni Mask during my most recent university group project creating an Edo Period Japanese mountain villiage. It is just under 7000 tris and took 4 days to complete.
I sculpted this marble bust as part of my third-year specalism at Escape Studios, drawing inspiration from a real-life reference found here: https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/248722
This was my first attempt at sculpting a human face, and was a great learning experience for me. I thoroughly enjoyed honing my skills in ZBrush and learning the basics of facial retopology.
In real life marble's got a "low index of refraction" which means light can penetrate quite deep into it before refracting back out. That's why it ends up looking waxy like real skin. This meant whilst rendering I added a lot of subsurface scattering, I rendered using Path Tracer to show this best.
For lighting, I aimed to replicate my real life reference as much as possible, but I took some extra insporation from Chiaroscuro lighting in portraits because it's got the same dramatic yet soft vibe.
