🎥 A GOOD DEMO REEL 🎬

It's easy to see how much work, study and talent there is in the Animation Industry. It can be very intimidating, and even more when we see productions from the big studios and we see a level we are far from reach. But you can't climb a mountain only by looking at it. In 2020 I decided to start climbing that mountain in Animum School. It's been almost two years now, and when I look down, I can tell I've climbed a lot. But there is, and always will be, a lot more to climb, to learn and improve. That's why I'm always in constant development. I never stop learning, analyzing and creating. Although today I'm sharing with you my latest best animation shots, I know they won't be the bests for too long, but hopefully they are good enough to open a way, a ladder, to climb a little more and start a position in the Animation Industry. I would really appreciate any piece of feedback, comment or maybe opportunity you guys can give me. My biggest fear is to cause indifference, so please, If I made you laugh, or maybe cry, go ahead and tell me. Thank you very much for checking out my entry!

If you didn't leave by now, for me, it's already a win. I will go ahead and talk a little bit more about my shots then...

🍻 Making of "Memories"

Memories is a personal project I made to improve my skills at animating two characters interacting with each other. I tried to add a little of fun and surprise to the acting, and got even a little cartoony in some parts just for the sake of transmitting the humor sense of the scene. I can proudly say that I learned a lot about constraints, how to deal with a moving camera, lip sync and of course, acting.

🎵 Original song - "Do What You Gotta Do" by Dove Cameron and Cheyenne Jackson (From "Descendants 3").

👨‍🏫 Thanks to my mentor Agustín Ross Beraldi for helping me push the shot to the limit and beyond.

💑 Thanks to my classmates, my friends and my girlfriend for helping me with references, feedback and support.

There's a little of behind the scenes down below. This shot evolved a lot and that's why it might look a little messy. There's definitely a lot of back and forth, but I think the essence has always been there.

🥊 Making of "Backstage"

I really rather to work with life action audios, and even more if I don't see the actors, so they don't influence my shot and I can make pretty different things. In this case, I made an exception, and the reason why is because we have a black screen for the whole time while we listen to the audio. Yes, if you didn't guess already, this audio is from Cars, a movie from Pixar. I thought it would be really fun to imagine what could happen in screen with that audio, and that's why I created a wrestler who's in the backstage, getting ready for a fight when suddenly his manager breaks he's inner motivational speech.

🎵 Original audio - Property of Pixar by Owen Wilson (From "Cars").

👨‍🏫 Thanks to my mentor Roger Giménez Juliá for helping me approach my first facial animated shot.

💑 Thanks to my classmates for helping me with feedback and support.

Again, here's a little of behind the scenes. I hope you like it.

💀 Making of "Ritual"

This was a very, very fun shot. I love Cartoon and I think it’s the most creative style for any animator to work with. I had a lot of fun exaggerating, creating smears and breaking my rig apart. The idea of the character reviving the wrong corpse scared me a little at the beginning, I didn't know if the audience would understand what was happening in that very short time. So in this case, the feedback from anybody, animator or not, was key for me to see if I was going in the right direction. The ritual was very enjoyable for everyone to watch and they all drawn a smile in their face, so I can't ask for anything more.

🦾 Character rigs - Rudy and Marian by Animum School / Skully by Candy Rigs

🎵 Background Music - Happy Haunts by Aaron Kenny

👨‍🏫 Thanks to my mentors Hernan Giraldo Guerrero and Lluis Llobera Trias for helping me exaggerate with no fear and boost the shot like I never thought it could.

💑 Thanks to my classmates for helping me with feedback and support.

This time, you'll see that I used more than video footage for my reference in the behind the scenes. I used them to study how to create those effects from the big masters. Here are some credits for the 2D animations, Disney, Pixar Warner Brothers, Sony Animation, Zinkia...

💡 Thanks to Andre Schneider how's working on the lighting for this shot! In the animation industry, the teamwork is indispensable, working with other artists takes the work to another level. Also, lighting a Cartoon scene like this can get really tricky, with all the smears and the multiples, so he's still working on it, but here's a WIP of his work!

👮‍♂️ Making of "Saved Her"

Finally, this is the shot I'm currently working on after finishing my master degree at Animum and starting a workshop at Animworkshop. I felt like my demo reel needed a little bit of emotion, feels great to make people laugh and enjoy your shots, but you know what feels even better? Make them empathize with a character. In this one, we have a couple of cops who work together to keep the city and its citizens nice and secure. They saw a robbery and stopped the thieve, but the price was too high, they weren't able to save the life of the victim. Will our hero be able to live with that?

🦾 Character rig - Rob by Animworkshop

🎵 Background Music - I Miss You So Much by Dark Fantasy Studio

👨‍🏫 Thanks to my mentor Luis Velasco Muñoz for helping me transmit the feelings through the character and teaching me new ways to work.

💑 Thanks to my classmates for helping me with feedback and support.

I've tried a new workflow taught by my mentor to make "Saved Her", so you won't find the same process in this behind of scenes. Also, I'm still working on this shot, so it's not as polished as I'd like it to be, but still a good WIP (Work In Progress).

❤ Thanks for reading and watching!

You made it down here? Wow! Thank you very much! I hope you really enjoyed my work and again, feel free to reach me out for anything, it doesn't matter if it’s about a job, a need of help, or simply networking: [email protected]

I'll see you in the next year with more and better shots! And if I'm lucky enough, maybe a little bit higher in the mountain of the Animation Industry. 🧗‍♂️🌄
