The Secret Garden Interactive Storybook

The Secret Garden is a coming-of-age story about a healing journey and positive transformation. When I start learning how to create AR, I decided to present this story using AR that gives the audience the feeling of “being there.”

Since my target audience is tweens. I tried to incorporate several types of virtual experiences that can evoke interest and stimulate curiosity. The first is audio, other than the background and sound effects, I got some help from someone to narrate the story, which not only helps develop literacy skills but also increase audience engagement.

The audience gets to be a part of the story by finishing the task (minigames) on some of the pages. I also include a page with a 3D corridor model that the audience can peek into.

For this project, illustration plays a significant role. When I draw the pages, the colours and tones of each page followed the flow of the story. The colours are duller and gloomier at the beginning and slowly become more colourful at the end. This does not only present the environment but also reflect the mood of the protagonist.
