Delivering specialist degrees in a world-class visual effects studio and empowering the next generation to start their career in film and television.

Rising Sun Pictures (RSP) and the University of South Australia (UniSA) have partnered to deliver accredited courses in visual effects. In classrooms set up to mirror real-world production environments, and with instructors who are working professionals, the award-winning visual effects studio rigorously trains students in the technologies and techniques they'll need to succeed in an expanding global film industry. There are three UniSA degrees which provide a pathway to a career in visual effects - an under-graduate degree and Bachelor of Film and Television (visual effects specialisation), and two post-graduate degrees - Compositing and Tracking, and Dynamic Effects and Lighting. Students gain exposure to professional practice standards through learning in a production studio, and using industry standard software under the supervision of experienced visual effects artists. Upon completion of the programs, graduates have a clear understanding of what it takes to succeed in this highly competitive and rewarding industry, as well as an invaluable connection to one of Australia's leading visual effects companies. Student are equipped with the required skills and knowledge to seek and gain employment as an entry-level visual effects artist.

Bachelor of Film and Television

Study and specialise in Film, Television or Visual Effects. Gain an understanding of the professional production cycle from conceptualisation through to production and post-production. Work on real-world projects with industry professionals. Have the opportunity to be selected for a placement and study with Rising Sun Pictures for the whole third year of your degree. Learn in state-of-the-art television and radio studios - UniSA is home to one of SA’s largest green screens. Work with the latest industry standard software, hardware and technology. Third year students can connect with the Film Concept Lab, working alongside We Made A Thing Studios, to produce a short film for festival release. Apply for the Bachelor of Film and Television/Master of Teaching (Secondary) packaged option– it’s a pathway straight into postgraduate study. Graduate Certificate in FX and Lighting

At the completion of this program, graduates will be able to demonstrate the following: 3D visual effects techniques such as dynamic effects (particle-based simulations such as explosions, water effects, textural effects, clouds). Procedurally generated environments such as cities, beaches and forests; and computer-generated lighting applications. An ability work to deadline and to supervisor brief, independently and as part of a team.Plan shot execution, breaking down creative and technical shot requirements.An understanding of departmental and industry best practices and techniques. Navigation and task management using Shotgun and other VFX production techniques. Final presentation of your professional portfolio and resume.

Graduate Certificate in Compositing and Tracking

At the completion of this program, graduates will be able to demonstrate the following: Tangible VFX focused software skills using 3DEqualizer, Nuke, Maya, Silhouette and Shotgun. Industry standard VFX camera tracking, matchmoving, paint & roto and basic compositing. An ability work to deadline and to supervisor brief, independently and as part of a team. Plan shot execution, breaking down creative and technical shot requirements. An understanding of departmental and industry best practices and techniques.Navigation and task management using Shotgun and other VFX production techniques.Final presentation of your professional portfolio and resume.
