Sleeping fears
This was a group project that I worked on with my classmates last year. It was awarded as the best game in our class at FloridaExpo 2022 and presented at an annual forum for teachers due to its psychological theme, which aligned with the topics discussed at the forum.
Story
You are Kerei, a young adult who has had nightmares all their life. All their nightmares were always so different, but they seemed to have a connection: they all had the same voices, calling, asking for help. Kerei had been tormented by these dreams for years, losing sleep and being terrified of going to bed. Until one day, they decided to confront their fears and try to find the origin of those voices, the origin of those dreams. What they find may be worse than they expected, and they may uncover some old forgotten memories.
Gameplay
The gameplay is based on metroidvania-style games, in which Kerei must explore a map filled with enemies while searching for the voices that call out to them. The voices will demand objects related to Kerei's traumas, and once Kerei has delivered the objects, the voices will find peace, and the exit from their dreams will be unlocked.
My work on the project
My role in this project involved all aspects of programming: from programming the mechanics to the UI. I handled level design, starting from the map sketches all the way to full implementation within the project. I was also involved in the development of the original idea.
