The Butcher

"The Butcher" was a collaborative effort, including 14 different artists across a span of 4 months. I worked as Director, Co-Producer, Technical Director, Character Rigger, Modeler, Layout Artist, and Editor. 

A few surfacing turntables of the assets from the short. The lunchbox, bread, and cleaver were surfaced by Ayah Lopez. The meat, and avocado were surfaced by Nick Beaufait.

The animatic allowed the story to be visualized more clearly and also allowed the beats of the story to be conveyed. The art was created by Aaliyah Jaleel and was edited by me (Jared Lascurain).

This was a presentation I did for "The Butcher" explaining the production's process and some specifics on what I worked on. The Butcher was one of 8 projects chosen to be presented on stage out of 200 different senior projects at the School of Arts and Technology at The University of Texas at Dallas.

This is a quick video showing a clip from one of our music recording process. During music recording sessions I would sit in the recording room with the pianist, Jonathan Wallace, and give feedback and direction. Sound design, recording, and mixing was done by Joseph Nied. 

These are some rig calisthenics created by Jonathan Wallace for the project. A challenge we faced was to make the objects cut-able while maintaining quality in the surfacing/model.

A corner of the environment from the short. Joey Young created the cash register, knives, and apron. I modeled everything else and set dressed. When set dressing I wanted to convey the feeling of the environment being lived in.

Some illustrations of family photos of the father and daughter seen within the picture assets. These illustrations were created by Aaliyah Jaleel. I wanted to have these illustrations in the background to show the father as a family man. However, I did not want to have them as a focus because I thought it would've made it feel too forced on the audience.

The main character of the short was modeled by Matson Dickson and the character concept was created by Hossein Ojaghi. 

The Short Film "The Butcher" was created by students attending the school of Arts and Technology at the University of Texas at Dallas.
