Long time no post on The Rookies Here is a pair of rollerskates that started as a simple project with focus on both hardsurface and organic shapes. It turned out to be quite a challenge and I really started to invest alot of time on it making all these parts and details

Round of applause for our sponsors

I made 4 different colors and rendered inside substance stager.. which color is your favorite ?

The model is free to download and explore on my sketchfab.

UV: Each part was manual UVed inside maya. Several was overlapped to save some space since I went for everything to fit on 1 material 1 UV.

I made this 3D model very detailed and made each part that I could, with bearings, spacers, threaded screws and bolts ect.

One of the more complex shapes was the cabin fiber part that holds the foot and connects with the metal frame. I used booleans to add the holes and then did a cleanup afterwards

I redesigned the laces a little bit. I could not wrap my head around how I would actually tie a shoelace. So I designed a lace-lock instead.

I used curve tool along with clusters that I would snap to, to get the lace around and inside the holes. After having my curve shape, i simply used the "Sweep Mesh" and readjusted the polygons with soft selection to fit it nice all the way around
