First project at SkyUp Academy started creating a chimera by drawing a concept, making a real maquette using monster clay, sculpting in Z-brush and rendered in Maya Vray. His name is Renato, OctoRenato.

I wanted to publish my work from the beginning to the end. Here are my steps.

Octorenato is my concept art created following the academy's guidelines. This project was characterized by creatining a Chimera. The only restriction was to make the chimera between 2 to 3 animals. I have ended up immagining this creature composed by a frog, an octopus and a crabby's shell as you might see in all the sides.

The Following step was to compose our creature, I first used rolled paper , thin and thick wires to create the shape of its structure and the position it would have had. Then I slowly added monster clay to add more volume and all the details visible in the following photos.

I have done an accurated research to get all the references i have used. We have had the opportunity to get for 3 times reviews from our teachers to understand the way i was taking to get the job done.

Time to make some 3D work. We moved on Zbrush, where it took me lot of time to make the tentacles and its suction cups. The big hussle was to decide in advance the tentacles' final position as they were part of the principals volume. I wanted to evolve the concept trying to keep my octorenato a nice guy, so i have come up with the idea of the open mouth with his flying tounge.

I got the following reference for the lighting as well.

The final step was on Maya, I set the lighting and the settings on Vray where i have got my final renders (as you can see at the beginning of this page).
