Man with scars

Hi there

It's been a while, but , I wanted to show you my last project called " Man with scars".

It a project I did in order to practice anatomy modeling, and clothes, it was really fun to do.

I was also a bit inspired by The Last of Us part1 when I decided to design the character.

Also, because I m cool, i will share with you the breakdown of it.

To start the project, i use a basemesh I did few weeks ago in order to speed up my process, I was fine with it and it helps me a lot.

When i had done with it, I tried to find the good references, and that a big challenge.

I wanted an asian character, so i used "anatomy for sculptor" to get the asian eye form shapes. My mistakes was to be too focus on shapes that I like than on shapes that would make my character more believable.

So I decided to stick with one real person as reference, because I m a HUGE fan of Arsenal FC, I decided to chose Takehiro Tomiyaso face reference.

It wasn't a likeness challenge, the goal was only get the proper shapes in order to make a face that could be more believable.

REFERENCE IS KEY! here the 3 steps i went through to get the final design and the person I used as reference

What happened next? I needed to find reference for clothes and colors. So I used some artwork from Naughty dog concept and Gop Gap.

Of course I use asos website to find the clothes that could fit with my vision and help for the details.

By the way, because i was going to use a new software for the clothes, I picked up the clothes in consequence. Doing a simple and good design is better than go for a big AAA design, struggling and give up.

Now, lets make clothes, because it was the first time, I use a lot of tutorial on youtube in order to accomplish this task,  to be honest, it wasn't that hard and I have fun with it.

Blocking to refine with all my references on side.

Once done, time to retopo and unwrap all of this...

I decided to do not go too high in term of polygons , except for face.

Next? Texturing.

Stick with basic references and add some story telling. I like it!

For the face, I watch the skin turtorial from J Hill on youtube and for the clothes I used my references.

When everything was done, time present the character, change the pose, setting lights..
