Round of applause for our sponsors

To Start out recreating the B&T VP9 I found information regarding sizes such as the height and length of the weapon as well as the diameter of the barrel along with accurate orthographic measurements of a 9mm bullet as well as disassembled images of the weapon to recreate the weapons silhouette, shapes and parts in Maya

After The low poly was finished the model and all its parts were taken into Zbrush to start construction of the high poly, The high poly details were made by making use of a boolean workflow and dynamic subdivision

The Models were taken into marmoset to create bakes for each part of the gun, and the maps from the bakes were then taken into substance painter for texturing. The textures were broken up into 3 2k texture maps for the gun consisting of the externals, and the internal of the weapon as well as its accessories (suppressor, Wipes, and Rail) and a small 512px map for the Bullet, casing, and Used casing.

After the bake was applied to the model I turned back to my reference to take note of what materials were used, where they were used, and how the use and handling of the weapon affected the materials such as edge wear, grease/ sweat marks for hands, and soon. in the early texturing process height maps were used to fill in gaps of detail that weren't included in the high poly

An important part of guns in realism is their markings, including serial numbers, company logos, information about Calibur, and the factory of origin. For this, alphas were made in photoshop to be used as stencils in substance painter.

After the texturing was finished the Textures maps were imported back into marmoset to be rendered

and these are the results.
